Add sprinkles if you want to. This is an all-purpose cookie recipe that you can change the flavor and appearance of for any time of year.

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 Cup sugar
2 Eggs
1 Teaspoon anise extract (or vanilla, almond, lemon)
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 tablespoons melted butter
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
pinch of salt (if using un-salted butter)

ICING INGREDIENTS

2 cups confectioner's (powdered) sugar
3 to 4 tablespoons milk, light cream, or water
1 teaspoon vanilla, extract (or maple, almond, lemon)
pinch of salt

Roll cookie dough into small balls (about 1 spoonful each) or use a sorbet scoop for perfect size every time. Chill in refrigerator for 1 hour. Then bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees F.  Allow to cool completely.

Dip the top of each cookie in the icing icing and allow to dry.

If adding sprinkles, let them stand for a while and dip in sprinkles before the icing has dried completely.
