Watch me work out a negative fraction power. In example 1 you need to work out 9 to the power of -1/2. Put 1 on the numerator of the fraction and write 9 to the power of a half on the denominator. Work out a power of a half is the same as square rooting the number. Do the square root of 9 is 3 so the final answer is 1/3.
In example 2 you need to work out 16 to the power of -3/2. Again put 1 on the numerator and write 16 to the power of 3/2 on the denominator. Work out the denominator by square rooting 16 which is 4, and then cubing 4 which is 64. So the final answer is 1/64.
In example 3 you need to work out 27 to the power of -2/3. Again put 1 on the denominator and put 27 to the power of 2/3 on the denominator. Work out the denominator of the fraction by cube rooting 27 which is 3, and then squaring 3 which is 9. This will give a final answer of 1/9.
