Northern Pygmy Owl Predates on Nuttall's Woodpecker

This Northern Pygmy Owl was seen in Placerville CA in late January. It was spectacular to see this small owl (3 ½ inches tall) fly with this big prey in its talons. Sometimes the size of the predator is almost smaller than the prey, that's what made this such as surprise find out in front of the house one January day.
