So at first you might think VR shoes are for experiencing VR, outside. But you don't need special shoes for that. Instead, this shoe creates an indoor VR experience that usually costs thousands. And even though they are working on a better looking shoe,

the prototype design is already pure genius.

Because when you walk, the shoe measures how fast you walk, and in what direction. This information then controls the tank treads on the bottom of the shoe. So when you're walking in VR, the shoe moves backwards a precise distance to keep you in the same place. Even if you step sideways, the tread can tilt.

So no need for big $2000 dollar VR treadmills.
