When suturing mesh in a
When suturing mesh in a robotic ventral or incisional hernia repair we typically start by sewing over the edge of the mesh. A more advanced technique is what I call the sewing machine stitch and others have called the dolphin stitch because the needle goes in and out of the mesh and muscle in a straight line rather than diagonally over the edge of the mesh. This uses less suture and can be more efficient. But it is also a little tricky. So, here are some tips to making it easier.
