On Sunday July 16, 2023, FCSO Dispatch received a report of a black Mercedes that had briefly traveled into the wrong lane and nearly caused a head-on collision. FCSO deputies located the vehicle at Old Kings Rd and State Road 100 and attempted a traffic stop; however, the vehicle did not stop until it had reached AdventHealth-Palm Coast and parked near the Emergency Room.

The driver was identified as Michael Alfonso, 48, a habitual drunk driver. Alfonso was uncooperative and appeared extremely intoxicated, so he was taken to the emergency room in a wheelchair from the traffic stop to be checked for any medical conditions by deputies.

Alfonso was arrested for Felony D.U.I. (4th D.U.I. – 3 Prior Convictions) and 2 counts of Failure to Obey Law Enforcement. He is being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on $26,000 bond.

This incident is part of Sheriff Rick Staly's Weekend Roundup for July 14–17. To view the Roundup in full and read about two more cases from this weekend, visit our Facebook.
