Man "armed with a knife" shot, killed by Toronto police officer

Toronto police say a man has been shot in a police-involved shooting in the city’s east end on Wednesday.

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU), known as Ontario’s police watchdog, said in an update that the man has died.

“The SIU is investigating after a police officer fatally shot a man today,” a spokesperson said in an email to Global News.

Police were called to Danforth and Victoria Park avenues at around 12:09 p.m. for reports of a “man armed with a knife.”

Investigators said an officer had discharged their firearm and a man was shot.

A witness told Global News when the officer approached the man, the man began walking toward him “quite quickly.”
