I spent one month solo-traveling in China to explore it's breathtaking natural wonders with my DJI drone, starting from the Great Wall of China to iconic mountains of Guilin, Yangshuo, and the Avatar Mountains in Zhangjiajie, all the way to the remote Gobi desert in Inner Mongolia. My journey began with a long solo-hike along the unrestored Jiankou section of the Great Wall of China, known for its wildness. Though typically requiring a local guide, I chose to challenge myself, almost losing my way on the return through the forest. I then explored the restored Jinshanling section, dedicating a week to appreciate and pay tribute to those who died building these steep walls through the mountains. This adventure inspired me to head my way into the deserts of Inner Mongolia, where I visited the remote Badain Jaran desert, known for its unique lakes. Months of planning using Google Earth led to four days of camping among the world's highest dunes. My journey continued into Xinjiang province, where I navigated its vast desert with the help of satellite views, despite the area's danger and isolation. I was warned by many to go there, after four men died crossing this desert just three weeks ago. However I advised my driver to take the highest safety measurements, including the best 4x4 car, enough food and fuel, and an emergency call since there was no signal for six days. Upon safely returning, I headed south to witness the Avatar Mountains in Zhangjiajie and the stunning Guilin mountains, though weather conditions limited my time there and my documentary of these stunning mountains. However I was able to witness a single good sunrise in a whole week, which was a blessing for me, it was better than nothing. This journey was filled with challenges due to language barriers and police constant questioning in trains and airports as a solo-traveler entering very remote areas. Camping with minimal resources caused me to lose seven kilograms during the trip. My focus was on capturing these breathtaking landscapes rather than ensuring proper meals due to limited backpack space filled with camera equipment. The China project remains ongoing, with much more of this vast country left to explore. I hope you enjoy following along on this journey! My travels and videos are independent and unsponsored.
