A visit to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in search of two memorials to the victims of two airliner crashes. First stop is the crash of Air Midwest Flight 5481 that crashed on Jan 8th 2003. The second memorial was located on a remote and disused part of the airport between the center and west runways. This memorial is to the victims of USAirways flight 1016 that crashed on approach on 02 Jul 1994. UPDATE 21 Sept 2019: Many have asked about a memorial to Eastern Flight 212, that crashed on approach to Charlotte's Runway 36R on 11 Sept 1974. That crash site is 3.25 miles south of the airport in a wooded area behind "The Rod of God Ministries" at 7400 S Tryon Street in Charlotte. Unfortunately, there is no memorial to the victims of this crash. Also, I am not sure if the public can any longer access the Flight 1016 memorial site. The airport has plans to build another north/south runway in this area and when they do, the memorial site will be in the middle of the construction site.
