The Divine Play: Master Yogananda's Journey to Comprehend the Manifestation of the Spirit
This stage production conveys a powerful truth about the manifestation of the personality and the play of God. It follows the powerful exchange between Master and Guru Sri Keshwar in the Autobiography of a Yogi, as Master has been meditating deeply and profoundly for a long time. It explores the stories and deeper truth of the infinite freedom of the spirit, and the call for the Master to take visible form to restore virtue and destroy adharma.
The play was centered around Jesus and Matthew was cast as Jesus, dragging a heavy cross up the aisle. Mary was played by Swami Kriyananda, who was dressed in a dove gray costume, and Gary McSweeney played Joseph who was laid out on a table. Swami Kriyananda explains the powerful moment of acting as being intensely real, able to step outside the world and into the moment of acting.
Swami Kriyananda goes on to explain the extraordinary experience of being in the moment when he was standing in front of the mirror in the nuns costume. He felt a vibration of dedication to God that broke through all forms, and experienced the same feeling when Matthew took him away from her husband.
Finally, Swami Kriyananda recounts a satsang in which he and his students lived in an isolated world, feeling the molding of Swami Kriyananda to become dedicated to Master’s work. He explains that when Divine realization comes, they see all of their incarnations as a dream, a play of God, and all the moments when they touched the Divine presence as pearls on a string.
This powerful stage production goes beyond comprehension and explores the manifestation of the personality, deep meditation, the play of God, stories and deeper truth, infinite freedom in the spirit, and restoring virtue and destroying adharma. It is an extraordinary experience of acting and a powerful reminder of the Divine presence.
