The fundamental principle granting admissibility to the confessions is that no person will voluntarily make a statement which is against his interest unless it be true. Confession in order to have evidentiary value must be made voluntarily and with free will. But sometimes accused can make false confessions because of the inducement, threat or promise. Such confessions are inadmissible.

In this video from Legal Bites, Pankaj Sinhmar discusses the concept of false confession caused by inducement, threat or promise, its relevancy and admissibility as provided under sections 24-28 of the Indian Evidence Act.
