Algebra basics to begin solving basic equations.
This is the first of a special series discovering how to solve algebra equations.

Your first step is to understand how algebra works, the important aspects of it and how it is similar/different to arithmetic.

The first thing to learn is that algebra and arithmetic share the same 4 processes. This is a key detail as we will be using the same operations as we have learnt in other videos - Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
The new aspect that we are going to learn about is the 'unknown'

The unknown is an unknown value which we don't know yet. In arithmetic the answer is often the unknown aspect and we can just solve the question to get the unknown. For example

5+10 =

We can just solve 5+10 to get to 15.
In algebra we use a symbol - often 'x' to represent the unknown. So this same problem will look like this:

5 + 10 = x

The X has replaced the blank space for the unknown.
Now this is a very very basic example of Algebra, but the features are still the same.
We might often see much harder and more complicated algebraic equations but as long as we understand that we are trying to find the values of the unknown symbols we can begin to solve them.

One very important aspect of Algebra is understanding that we can use the same symbol 'x' or 'y' or any other symbol to represent the same number is an equation - meaning that on some occasions x and y can have the same value.
BUT if there are more than one 'x' or 'y' or any symbol in the SAME equation then they MUST hold the same value.
For example

x + x = 4

the X must represent the SAME value so in this case X must = 2
