Mercedes has unveiled more detailed information about the AMG GLE 53 Hybrid, one of two AMG performance versions of the revamped GLE-Class SUV. Expected to hit U.S. dealerships in late 2025 as a 2026 model, the GLE 53 is a plug-in hybrid, similar to recent AMG models. Its power comes from a 3.0-liter turbo-6 engine generating 443 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque, accompanied by an electric motor capable of delivering a maximum of 134 hp and 354 lb-ft, fueled by a 31.2-kwh battery pack. Furthermore, the GLE 53 boasts an updated air suspension with new passive stabilizers front and rear, along with new stop buffers in the front shocks and rear dampers. Mercedes has also made software changes. Braking performance is enhanced over the standard GLE, with 15.7-inch rotors and 6-piston calipers at the front and 14.6-inch rotors with single-piston calipers at the rear. Available in standard SUV or Coupe body styles, the GLE 53 stands out from non-AMG models with a new front fascia and exterior badges indicating its plug-in hybrid powertrain. Inside, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system receives new functions and graphics related to the plug-in hybrid system.
While the GLE 53 is potent, it's not the most powerful AMG GLE-Class. The GLE 63 S boasts a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 combined with the same plug-in hybrid system, delivering 603 hp. Both AMG models are based on an updated GLE-Class introduced for the 2024 model year, featuring updated styling, Dolby Atmos technology for the available Burmester audio system, and a non-AMG plug-in hybrid variant. These updates help maintain the freshness of the current-generation GLE, initially launched in 2019 as a 2020 model. Pricing details for the 2026 AMG GLE 53 will be revealed closer to its U.S. launch in late 2025.
