Some ideas on how to grow, care  and propagate a lemon tree. Lemon trees which are grown from cuttings can bear fruit as early as less than a year depending on how the plant is being cared.

________

Here we are today in our American lemon area, and this is our two-year old lemon where I took cuttings to propagate.

It started to bloom and bear fruit when it was one year old from planting but the fruit was only one few and it took a very long time to ripen, almost nine months, that long. But the beauty of it is that it blooms all year round, so your harvest will be continuous when you plant a lot.

To increase the number of branches, I used the bending technology that Nestle taught us how to increase the number of coffee branches. I tried it with lemon and it worked. I did this when the plant was around six months old, and after two weeks, the branches grew. The more beautiful branches, the more fruit.

The other thorns, especially the long ones, I cut and burn because they are very sharp and painful to sting so it is difficult to maintain and clean if they are not cut.

The old leaves are also removed because the insects, especially the black ants, hide here.

This is the kind of caterpillar that always lives on citrus plants. It eats a lot of lemon leaves so we have to remove it and give it to the chicken.

You also need to remove those small and unproductive branches to keep the lower part clean, and also easier for sunlight to penetrate and it also helps in good air flow.

To propagate a lemon, just take a mature branch, which is about six months old. Cut 6-7 inches long and remove leaves and thorns. Cut the base of the cuttings like this because that is where the root will grow. Then, just plant it in the potted top soil.

In the summer, you need to wrap it in plastic to maintain your moisture, but this may not be done during the rainy season.

After one month you can open it and put it in a partly shady area. And around two months, you can transplant him directly in the field or in individual pots. Lemon prefers loamy soil or sandy loam. If you have good soil quality, you don't even have to apply fertilizer.

This is the first batch of cutting that has been grown, at least one year old from cutting. This was given by a friend, it looks like Meyer Lemon, a different variety, the fruits are smaller but more beautiful.

And this, he is in full bloom. There is also another batch that is still small.

This is a one and a half year old sakura tree known for its cherry blossom. I'll just try to plant here even if it's a relatively warm area here with us. Just in case, the caterpillar always eats those leaves. They are eggplant trees that I planted here.

Let’s go back here to the big lemon tree. There is a branch here that is close to the ground but I didn't cut it because I was ashamed of the fruit, I was waiting for it to ripen and then I cut it. This is the branch that is attached to the ground and has already taken root. I'll cut it and move.

I only take them ripe because they can be harvested.
