The events of 9/11 September 11, 2001, sent a WAVE of shock and disbelief across the entire world. While the deadliest modern terror attack to take place on US soil affected virtually every aspect of American life in the aftermath, perhaps nowhere were the changes more immediately apparent than in the world of entertainment.


For example, the popular and well-made long form trailer for Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, which debuted in front of features playing in the summer of 2001, was immediately pulled from theaters due to its prominent use of the twin towers in its final shot. Also, the Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle Collateral Damage- with an opening sequence depicting a terrorist attack in Los Angeles- was pushed
Four months back from its scheduled release date of October 5, 2001, and its original trailer was similarly scrapped.


In the world of radio, the monolithic corporation Clear Channel- owners of thousands of stations across the US- issued a list of songs which were to be temporarily banned from airplay, songs which executives thought would be too upsetting for sensitive ears in the wake of the tragedy. The list, which featured more than a few strange and nonsensical choices, remains a famous example of the sometimes puzzling media response to September 11th.


Even the producers of children’s shows were forced to quickly examine their upcoming episodes and entire backlog for potentially psychologically damaging material. Plenty of changes were made and episodes dropped, some for very strange reasons. Here are eleven episodes of children’s shows that were affected by the events of 9/11.
