Lahav Shani conducts Tchaikovsky's 5th | Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra

“Little by little I hope to collect new material for a new symphony.” Tchaikovsky wrote these words in a letter to his brother in the spring of 1888. It was more than nine years after his Fourth and the composer was struggling with self-doubt. However, as in much of his other music, his Fifth contains beautiful melodies. Still, fate continues to play a major role, but Tchaikovsky would not be himself if it were not matched by a glorious victory.
