In this video, the contributions of Robert Koch in Microbiology and his postulates were discussed. Robert Koch was considered to be the father of Modern Bacteriology. He was one of the first who studied the relationship between the microorganisms and the disease. He first studied anthrax, tuberculosis and cholera disease and found Bacillus anthracis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and vibrio cholerae as their disease-causing agents. He proposed four postulates to link the relationship between the microorganisms and the disease. He also found the drug tuberculin to treat tuberculosis. In addition, he pure cultured the microorganisms in a solid media using agar as a solidifying agent. Nutrient agar and nutrient broth prepared by Robert Koch are still in use for culturing microorganisms. Petri dish was another important invention of Richard Petri, who was one of the assistants of Koch. Another important milestone is the autoimmunity (it is the system of the immune response of an organism against its own healthy cells and tissues) which was also described here.
