He was set to do a concert on October 24, 2020 to help entertain and boost the morale of his millions of fans around the world, but then came the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We were getting ready for a concert at the amazing El Mocambo Oct. 24th when the new lockdown came into effect,” Gord said this week. “So everything is put on hold.”

But the band is still rehearsing and getting ready to do the concert tour dates as soon as they can find a date post the 28-day lockdown. “We are trying to stay sharp,” the 81-year-old Canadian icon said. Gordon Lightfoot, who just released his 21st album in 2020, during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, said once the coast is clear the band will hit the road again.

Update: Gordon Lightfoot death. He was a consummate artist. One of the most notable qualities in his music was empathy for his fellow man. He died in the evening of May 1, 2023, of undisclosed causes, in a Toronto hospital.
