ORIGINAL INFO: Beyond the darkness, beyond the human evolution… is Khan. And a pointless adaptation of a great movie.
RUMINATIONS: And so we get to the first proper story stuff post-Entity arc. The thing I realized at the end of that arc was that, simply put, there was no way to escalate the threat. Once you get to “hero defeats Lovecraftian God,” there really is no way to make the next thing scarier. While I understand the position, I’ve always been disappointed by the attitude of many writers in TV or the like who have said, “we decided to end it here because there was no way to top ourselves.” To me, it shouldn’t be about trying to top yourself, just trying to continue to produce good material and people will flock to the quality. Thus if I can’t escalate the SCALE of the threat, the next goal should be to turn things inwards – develop the characters, create real conflict and tragedy and heartache – thus this three-parter.
I like the idea that Linkara is AWARE that he’s part of a storyline, but that even he is restricted by the rules of the setting to where he wants to keep the storyline stuff limited to after the review whenever possible.
