The Mercedes EQA is the
The Mercedes EQA is the brand's first compact electric SUV. Based on the combustion-powered GLA, the EQA aims to offer the premium styling and technology Mercedes is known for in an all-electric package.
On the outside, the EQA looks very similar to the GLA, with smoother styling and details like frameless doors and flush handles giving it a futuristic edge. The most noticeable difference is the closed-off grille, a signature of electric vehicles. Inside, the EQA also borrows heavily from the GLA, using the same dual-screen infotainment system and high-quality materials.
There are three EQA variants available: the EQA 250 with 190 hp, the EQA 300 4MATIC with 228 hp, and the EQA 350 4MATIC with 292 hp. The 250 offers the longest range at up to 324 miles, while the others manage around 260 miles. Charging takes just over 30 minutes from 10-80% at a fast charger.
Driving the EQA feels relaxed and quiet, with smooth, effortless acceleration. The composed ride soaks up bumps nicely, although it's not as fun to drive as rivals like the Ford Mustang Mach-E. There's decent space up front but the rear is cramped due to the battery placement. The boot is also compromised compared to the GLA, at just 340 litres.
Overall, the EQA brings Mercedes' renowned quality and technology to the electric SUV class. But limitations in rear passenger and luggage space mean more practical rivals like the Skoda Enyaq and Volkswagen ID.4 are better all-rounders. Prices start from £49,750, which is quite expensive compared to some competitors too.
So while the Mercedes EQA offers a premium electric driving experience, rivals match or beat it for practicality and value. Unless having that Mercedes badge is important, other options make more sense for most buyers.
