Like with all obstacles, keeping your head up and not fixating on the obstacle will keep things nice and smooth. Depending on the speed you're hitting the drop-off, you might need to manual to make sure you get a clean landing - always aim to land both wheels at the same time.
Getting airborne might be scary for beginners, but you have to go for it if you want to clear a drop off. If you do need to slow down, make sure to do it after you've landed, not just before you take off.
