The leader of the breakaway Chechnya republic has told APTV that the conflict will continue and will expand to an even wider area.

Chechen president Dzhokhar Dudayev said his supporters have not given up hope even though they've been pushed out of Grozny.

Over two months of fighting has caused massive destruction in the capitol and the surrounding area.

Dudayev, and his men are reported to have left the Chechen capital of Grozny and set up their headquarters elsewhere.

Although they've lost the battle for Grozny, Dudayev -  seen here addressing his war council two days ago - says the battle will go on.

He expressed concern about the bodies of those killed in the fighting.

"I can not look when dogs and cats are eating bodies on the streets. If you don't want to see this take your bodies away.  Let's stop fighting completely, we won't even fire a shot."

Chechen fighters have changed their fighting tactics according to the press centre of the Chechnya-based Russian Troop command.

The press centre reports that the fighters are no longer remaining at any one base but hiding their arms and scattering to their homes after a military action.
