Canton of Ticino
Ticino, sometimes Tessin, officially the Republic and Canton of Ticino or less formally the Canton of Ticino, is one of the 26 cantons forming the Swiss Confederation. It is composed of eight districts and its capital city is Bellinzona. It is also traditionally divided into the Sopraceneri and the Sottoceneri, respectively north and south of Monte Ceneri.

Bellinzona
It is a municipality, a historic Swiss town, and the capital of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. The town is famous for its three castles (Castelgrande, Montebello, Sasso Corbaro) that have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2000. The town lies east of the river Ticino, at the foot of the Alps. It stretches along the river valley, surrounded by the southern ranges of the Lepontine Alps to the east and west, and by the Lugano Prealps to the south.

Monte Carasso / Sementina / Gudo
They are former municipalities in the district of Bellinzona in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On 2 April 2017 the former municipalities of Camorino, Claro, Giubiasco, Gnosca, Gorduno, Gudo, Moleno, Pianezzo, Preonzo, Sant'Antonio and Sementina merged into the municipality of Bellinzona. The Swiss Heritage Society chose Monte Carasso for the 1993 Wakker Prize.

Verzasca Dam (Contra Dam / Diga della Verzasca)
The Contra Dam, commonly known as the Verzasca Dam and the Locarno Dam, is an arch dam on the Verzasca River in the Val Verzasca of Ticino, Switzerland. The dam creates Lago di Vogorno 2 km (1.2 mi) upstream of Lake Maggiore and supports the 105 MW Verzasca hydroelectric power station. It was constructed between 1961 and 1965 and starting shortly after its reservoir was filled, a series of earthquakes related to its water load occurred until 1971.

Lavertezzo
It is a municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Lavertezzo is first mentioned in 1327 as Laverteze. In the Middle Ages, Lavertezzo was a Squadra of the Vicinanza of Verzasca. For centuries the people lived, in the summer months, in the Verzasca valley and migrated in the winter, with their cattle, to the lower valleys. After the dissolution of Terricciole in 1920, a shared territory between Locarno, Minusio and Mergoscia, the settlement of Riazzino was allocated to Lavertezzo.

Verzasca River
The Verzasca is a 30-kilometre (19 mi) long Swiss Alpine river originating at Pizzo Barone and flowing into Lake Maggiore. It is known for its clear turquoise water and vibrant colored rocks, as well as its treacherous currents. The Verzasca Dam is a few kilometers upriver from Lake Maggiore.

Ponte dei Salti
The Ponte dei Salti (meaning the bridge of the jumps) is a footbridge over the Verzasca in Lavertezzo in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The stone bridge with two arches was built in the 17th century. It is a protected cultural asset of regional importance. Its two arches have spans of 14 m each. The footpath follows the shape of the arches, less to give the bridge an elegant appearance than to save masonry in the area of the gussets and at the same time to keep the weight on the arches low. The footpath on the bridge is just wide enough for two people to pass each other. The parapet walls are only knee high to leave enough space for the bags carried by the donkeys. The height of the bridge over the river depends on the respective water level, but should also be around 14 m in most cases.
