We are going to have a look at the diary of a German officer today. Major was commander of the 371st Infantry Division's signal battalion from April 1942. These archival records present an insider's view of the workings of German headquarters during one of the critical periods of World War II. Based on the text of the diary, it is possible to see the writer's mood change over time, specifically as he was transferred from headquarters to fight in the trenches. With each passing day he is becoming more and more convinced of the Red Army's growing strength, despite the fact that he keeps trying to convince himself of the impending "success" of the German army until the end...
