Who should take the ball in the middle in tennis doubles? The middle is the most vulnerable spot for any combination you can play in doubles whether it's two tennis players up at net, two back at the baseline or one player up and one player back.
Throw out the old myths that the forehand volleyer should cover the middle. That doesn't make any sense.
