In this video I am establishing the baseline of what can be expected from Microtech's proprietary steel M390MK made by Bohler Edelstahl (Steel) in Germany. Microtech has been very tight-lipped about the actual difference between the M390MK and very advanced yet very common among premium knife makers M390. It's particle metallurgy composition, relatively high carbon and chromium content, and relative "straight forwardness" of heat treatment regime allow the knife makers small and large to use it in all types of knives designed for the widest range of applications and climates. Yet, not even Dr. Larrin Thomas, the world's one and only celerity metallurgist, an author, inventor of MagnaCut steel, and the man behind ‪@KnifeSteelNerds‬ could not even postulate what is the difference between the M390 and M390MK. He had a theory that there is a potential for higher hardness, which is what I'm trying to address in this video.
