Shaw Brothers | The Swordplayer's Ball | Wuxia

Of all the different types of films that Shaw Brothers made, I think their "wuxia" swordplay sub-genre has the strongest brand. What it's best known for is the lush indoor sets, the costumes (hair and makeup), and the convoluted stories. The action was really secondary. Just bringing all of those elements together, Shaw Bros' vision of wuxia was a character in itself.

After having seen so many of these films, I just happened to notice the parallels to pimps, players, prostitutes, and hustlers… even cops... in "The Life" (The Game).
