On January 25, 1859, in the evening, Don Bosco announced that Magone was not the one he had intended to name as being close to eternal life. He said they all should continue to be prepared so that the boy who was to die would not be surprised by an unprepared death. And he added, “This second death will occur before a month passes. Will it be me? Will it be one of you? Let us be prepared.”
