But there are two mid-sized SUV offerings from Mercedes-Benz, and it might not be immediately obvious which one is right for you. Both the GLC and the GLE are packed with all of the technology and luxury that you would expect from a Mercedes-Benz. Performance & Technical Details.
This is where you’ll see the biggest difference between the two models, although maybe not at first glance. Both offer the same base engine, a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with a mild hybrid system producing 255 horsepower. The transmission is the same 9-speed automatic, but the GLC comes with standard rear-wheel drive, with optional all-wheel drive, while the GLE comes with all-wheel drive as standard. The smaller and lighter GLC will dash to 60mph in 6.2 seconds, compared to 7 seconds in the base GLE. However, the GLE has three optional engines, a 2.0-liter inline-4 with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbo, (added a comma here, noting it because it’s impossible to see) and a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo. These bring 0-60 times down to 5.8 seconds, 5.3 seconds, (another comma) and 4.3 seconds respectively. All-wheel-drive is standard with these engines/trims as well. The difference in performance isn’t too great with the base engine, but if you’re thinking about adding some more power, the GLE is the way to go.

Utility & Space.
Both of these SUVs are built to handle a wide range of situations, but each has some specific areas where they offer advantages. The GLC is smaller than the GLE, more than 8 inches shorter. But passenger space isn’t so different. That extra space in the GLE is almost all behind the second row of seats. This is why you see such a difference in cargo capacity, not to mention the GLE’s optional third-row seats. Without sacrificing passenger space, the GLC will fit into tighter parking spaces and maneuver around the city and parking garages easier. The GLE, on the other hand, will handle a lot more cargo. Not just in the rear cargo area, but the GLE also has a noticeably higher towing capacity, which opens up a lot of options for what you can bring with you wherever you need to go.

Comfort & Interior Design Specifications.
The interiors of the two SUVs might look different, but both are built with the same mix of traditional luxury and advanced technology that has stood as a Mercedes-Benz hallmark for decades. The passenger compartments are similar in size, and both come with a lot of the same standard equipment.
