This is a video aimed at creating awareness about child abuse and also aimed at informing its viewers of the different types of Canadian legislation that is in place to protect the vulnerable.
Article 19 of the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child states : "Governments should ensure that children are properly cared
for, and protect them from violence, abuse and neglect by their
parents or anyone else who looks after them."
The Information:
Quote #1: a child dies every week in canada because of child abuse (statistics canada)
Quote #2: One in every four girl and one in every ten boy will be sexually abused before adulthood. (Statistic Canada)
The long-term consequences of child abuse and neglect can be profound and may endure long after the abuse or neglect occurs. (Child Welfare Information Gateway)
We all share a responsibility to protect children from harm. This includes situations where children are abused or neglected in their own homes. Ontario's Child and Family Services Act (CFSA) provides for protection for these children.
Section 72 of the Act states that the public, including professionals who work with children, must promptly report any suspicions that a child is or may be in need of protection to a children's aid society (CAS). This includes physical, sexual and emotional abuse, neglect, and risk of harm.
The Government of Canada has made many laws and criminal codes to provide safety and protection to all the children of the nation. Criminal code of Canada child protection provides legal protection to all the children of Canada. All the criminal charges and laws are provided to stop child abuse and exploitation of the children.
