Even though I had $2500 worth of video camera, I couldn't read the engine numbers even back theneither -- and the 28 years of terrible storage conditions since  didn't help either.  Like a lot of old stuff, it is what it is.

On may 3rd, 1983, what I believe is MKT 198, MKT 308, CR 79xx and MKT 229 lead a southbound freight a few miles south of Granger, Texas.  The head end power looks more like steam locomotives as it struggles to accelerate the train as it approaches Circleville, Texas.  It appears that a heavy head-end pickup was made of Georgetown Railroad rock cars while at Granger, Texas.  This was shot very near Mile Post 911.  Please enjoy it as a glimpse back in time, though like many fading memories, a fuzzy one.

This clip, edited slightly and cleaned up and enhanced considerably through the talents of Mr. Steve Goen can now be seen in his DVD offering, KATY'S TEXAS SUB.  He really did wonders with that old VHS tape!  If you are interested in seeing a better version of this, PLUS many other great Katy videos, contact Steam Gauge Video Productions, 1519 Sweetbriar Drive, Wichita Falls, TX 76302-2911.
