A Nelore cow recently set the record for the world’s most expensive animal ever auctioned. A 4-and-a-half-year-old cow known as Viatina-19 FIV Mara Imóveis was priced at $4.3 million. One-third of the ownership of the cow was recently sold at an auction in Arandú, Brazil for $1.44 million, putting its total value at $4.3 million. The record-breaking transaction is indicative of the Nelore cattle breed’s genetic qualities. Named after Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, the breed is characterized by their bright white fur, loose skin, and a large bulbous hump above their shoulders. They are highly resistant to hot weather and also have a very efficient metabolism. There are around 167,000,000 Nelore cows in Brazil, around 80 per cent of the cattle in the South American Country.
