Choosing the Right Clock Movement is Quite Easy To View a Selection of Clock Parts GO TO: clockparts.com/ Get Your Questions Answered AT: 888-827-2387 Mini quartz movements for different clock face materials. Discussing this subject is somewhat confusing to many so I'd like to take a moment and try to clarify this subject. Every clock that uses an analog clock hands has some kind of a dial or clock face even if it's blank and nothing is printed on it. To choose the correct quartz motor or movement you need to consider how thick your clock faces is. If you would like to see our selection of clock movements and the different shaft length please go to: www.clockparts.com/mini-quartz-clock-movements/ This will allow you to select the right hand shaft length for what your clock is made from. And most cases you'll be considering the length of the thread it part of the hand shaft. The threaded shaft goes through the clock face and is secured in place by the installing a brass washer and tightening a hex nut over it. It's good to have the threaded shaft go through the clock face by about an 1/8 of an inch . All of our mini quartz movements are available in six different hand shaft lengths. These are designed to work with materials for less than an 1/8 of an inch up to 3/4 of an inch thick. First checked the thickness of your clock face or clock dial. You can do this pretty easily with a pencil, marker and ruler. Put the pencil through the middle of the clock face and then mark each side with a marker. Pull the pencil out and measure the distance between the two marks. That's how thick your clock face or clock dial is. If you're unsure about the thickest of your clock face or clock dial then consider getting a hand shaft length that might be about it extra eighth of an inch long. I suggest this because in most cases you can easily shim a movement backwards by just adding a couple of washers over the hand shaft before you install it in your clock. Repair shops do this every day just to get the right shaft length for a replacement movement.
