Fencing a one acre plot with chain link and barbed wire

I recently acquired a one acre piece of land in Kiambu that I have a lot of big plans for. But before I could get started on those plans, I wanted to first fence it. I decided on a 7 foot chain link and barbed wire fence as it was fast, fairly cheap and looks good. This video goes into the process, costs and results of my experience. Step 1: Measure your perimeter I got a surveyor to do a topo survey of the property clearly identifying and in some cases renovating the property beacons. This was not only useful in giving me exact dimensions of each side of the plot, but would also be useful in my future projects. Interestingly, I did find that my neighbour had actually encroached about 1 metre into my property. Step 2: Get your quotes and buy materials I called multiple suppliers requesting quotes for chain link, treated wooden poles, barbed wire and basic metal gates as well as labour. When I had at least 3 quotes of each from fairly reputable firms that I found on the internet, I compared and selected the material and labour suppliers. Be careful of poles that look treated but only have chemical on the surface. So called ‘Tumbukiza’. To ensure poles are properly treated, cut into one pole to ensure the chemical has penetrated at least 2 inches on all sides. Step 3: Dig the holes for your poles 2 feet deep and 4 metres apart. Step 4: Stand your poles and concrete the base Step 5: Brace corner poles and every fourth pole There’s a nice little stream that runs along the boundary of the property Step 6: String your barbed wire strands Step 7: Roll out your chain link fence over the barbed wire and reinforce with binding wire.
