KAMPONG DURIAN
Kampong is typically known as the "natural village durian" meaning this kind of durian was grown by seed and not grafted. Because of this, you never know exactly what you are going to get with kampong, which is why it is sometimes referred to as mystery durian. Every kampong durian tastes very different, unlike grafted durian varieties which can all taste very similar. Kampong is actually prized for being "genuine" because it is not a "designer" variety. The fruit comes from older trees and is valued for its unique flavor with strong bitter notes, which is a common theme among old Malaysian durian varieties. The strong bitterness typically comes from trees that are 30+ years old. Grafted durian trees are more valuable than seedlings and older trees cannot be grafted which means there is a possibility that someday kampong may be endangered if farmers replace their old trees with designer varieties.
THE HULU DURIAN
The Hulu (AKA ‘Hor Lor’) is perfect for people who don't like watery durian. The texture is very thick with little water content. The flesh is sweet with a hint of bitterness. The shell of the Hulu durian is known for its hourglass shape. The color of the flesh can vary from warm yellow to completely white.
D24 DURIAN
D24 Durian, also known as Sultan Durian is typically a very pale yellow/white color. The texture is super thick, dense, and creamy when thawed. The flavor can be described as sophisticated with hints of white chocolate.
RED PRAWN DURIAN
Red Prawn is an award-winning variety known for its unique-looking, grayish shell and delicate, creamy flesh. Although the name suggests otherwise, the fruit is typically pale in color, but it sometimes has a light orange undertone. The flavor is sweet with hints of bitterness and berry flavor.
CHANEE DURIAN
This delicious durian variety is similar in look and texture to Musang King. Chanee durian is flavorful and slightly savory with a melt in your mouth texture when fully thawed.
PUYAT DURIAN
Puyat durian is an excellent variety for those who enjoy Monthong. It is similar in texture and flavor. Each pod has a large amount of flesh. The flavor is a little different than monthong, but better.
