The last thing you want to appear is manipulative and that is what dating can look like. It can look like you want to show your ex that you are dating in order to make them jealous. If they perceive it that way, it will make you look weak and like you are trying to get them back which is the exact opposite of what you want them to think. While you certainly shouldn't sit at home on the couch waiting for your ex to contact you or come back, dating too soon when you want your ex back is just as bad. Go out, but do so with friends, family, and other people who won't break up with you in the first place. Have fun and if your ex happens to see, which they usually do, they'll see that you are a fun, exciting person with lots of people who care about them. That will help boost your value in the eyes of your ex because it demonstrates strength and passion for life. If you really feel like you want to date, then you are over your ex so you might as well.
