Our decision to traverse the scenic route as you all know was fuelled by a deep-seated fascination for the enchanting allure of historic trains and stations we encountered on our travels through South Africa. As the steam train chugged along, we marvelled at the authenticity of the experience, relishing each moment of the journey down memory lane. The rhythmic clatter of wheels on tracks, the nostalgic call of the whistle and the swaying all transported us back in time. The stations we passed, including a stop at Somerset West, all contributed to the magical ambiance. Crossing the iconic Sir Lowry’s Pass and venturing through a time-honoured tunnel dating back to 1912 added layers of historical charm to the expedition.
