गोस्वामी तुलसीदास हिन्दी साहित्य के महान सन्त कवि थे। रामचरितमानस इनका गौरव ग्रन्थ है। इन्हें आदि काव्य रामायण के रचयिता महर्षि वाल्मीकि का अवतार भी माना जाता है।
श्रीरामचरितमानस का कथानक रामायण से लिया गया है। रामचरितमानस लोक ग्रन्थ है जिसे पूरे भारत में बड़े भक्तिभाव से पढ़ा जाता है। इसके बाद विनय पत्रिका उनका एक अन्य महत्त्वपूर्ण काव्य है। महाकाव्य श्रीरामचरितमानस को विश्व के 100 सर्वश्रेष्ठ लोकप्रिय काव्यों में 46वाँ स्थान दिया गया। संसार के लिए ये भले ही छिआलीसवाँ हो, पर हमारे लिए यह संसार का सबसे पवित्र और सर्वश्रेष्ठ काव्य है।
एक पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार तुलसीदास को इस दुनिया में आने में 12 महीने लगे, तब तक वे अपनी मां के गर्भ में ही रहे। उनके जन्म से 32 दांत थे और वह पांच साल के लड़के जैसा दिखते थे।
अपने जन्म के बाद, वह रोने के बजाय राम के नाम का जाप करने लगे। इसलिए उनका नाम रामबोला रखा गया
