Mid-size pickup trucks don't change to a new generation as often as their car counterparts. But when they do, it's usually a big update. In this video I take a look at the 2023 GMC Canyon Denali and the 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X crew cab and see how these two stack up against each other.
The engine in the Nissan Frontier is actually a carryover item from the previous generation but it is a new engine that was introduced in the last year of the previous generation Frontier. It is a 3.8L V6 and it produces 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque (231 kW & 381 Nm).
In the GMC Canyon, it is no longer available with a V6 or a Duramax Diesel. This 3rd generation GMC Canyon is only available with a 2.7L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. It produces 310 hp & 430 lb-ft of torque (231 kW & 583 Nm).
The 2024 GMC Canyon Elevation 4WD starts at $45,603 CAD ($39,300 USD) with the 2WD version, that is only available for the American market, starting at $36,000 USD. This Canyon Denali 2024 starts at $59,603 CAD ($51,000 USD) with the as-tested price of $61,698 CAD ($53,350 USD).
The 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro-4x crew cab will cost you $55,498 CAD ($45,825 USD) with the king cab S 4x4 configuration costing nearly $5,000 CAD less than the Canyon Elevation.
