The Soviet Memorial in Treptow
The Soviet Memorial in Treptow Park is the most important of four memorials to Soviet soldiers erected in Berlin after World War II and the largest memorial of its kind in Germany.
The site is strictly enclosed and entirely self-contained, providing a stark contrast to the park's landscaped surroundings. The memorial is imposing, has its own aesthetics. It has an emotional impact, but it can be quite different, depending on personal history and origin.
It is a monument of architectural and garden art, sculpture and painting of Stalinism, which has remained complete and largely unchanged to this day.
