The #MarundhuvazhMalai, a part of Sanjeevi hills is also known as the Marundhu Vazhum Malai/#Maruthwamalai, forms the part and the southernmost tip of the Western Ghats in Agasteeswaram taluk of Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, India. People living in southern Kerala call it "Maruthuva Mala.
This place is also known as Maruthwa Malai. It is around 8kms from Kanyakumari. You can board a bus to Pothayadi from Kanyakumari bus stand. kaliyakkavilai bus and few other buses pass through Pothayadi.
Once you reach Pothayadi, Maruthwa Malai is just 1.7Kms away.
You have to climb 400-500 steps to reach Hanuman temple on top. The view from here is breathtaking. You can also find small caves and other temples along the way.
The steps finish at the Hanuman temple and trek from here to the top of Maruthwa Mala is little difficult. We have to trek through rocks and i wouldn't recommend it for children and senior citizens. The way is marked with paint on rocks and hence you won't get lost. Trek till Hanuman temple is moderately easy and mostly everybody can do it in 1-1 ½ hours.
There are 2 or 3 small shops at the bottom and once you start the trek there are no shops there after. The way is surprisingly very neat and clean. You can find dustbins along the way and please make sure you don't litter.
The place is highly recommended to people visiting Kanyakumari. Unlike other spots you can enjoy peace and calmness here.
