Ducks are one of the most cutest and loving birds one can come across, Hence many of us might have wondered how lovely it would be to have few cute ducks running and playing around the yard and well, to add on to that
Here are 10 reasons why ducks would make wonderful pets
1. They can withstand harsh weather - Unlike chicken, Ducks have an additional layer of fat, which make it possible for them survive cold of upto -15c and they can as well handle hot summer of upto 35c. That makes them pretty suitable pets for almost any weather.
2. Ducks are intelligent - Ducks are way smarter than we imagine, you see Ducks are highly intelligent and emotional creatures. They can understand commands, play with toys, play games, give kisses, and beg for snuggles like other birds if you take the time to work with them. If handled frequently and gently from an early age, ducks will become quite sociable with people.
3. Ducks are relaxing to watch - There is something just so endearing and pure about how happy ducks get when you fill the up the small kiddie pool with fresh water and you get to watch them play around, while listening to their sweet quacking sounds. They just set up for the most perfect and sweet one ambience one can ask for.
4. Abundance of eggs - duck hens produce 3-4 eggs a week on average and similar to ducks, chickens as well produce about 3-4 eggs a week, But the difference is chicken usually produce for only 2-3 years max of their life and then takes a sharp decline ... But ducks, they remain productive until the age of about 7-8 years.
5. Duck eggs are superior to chicken eggs - A duck egg contains a larger yolk, which means more protein. Also, because a duck egg is twice the size of a chicken egg, it has more egg whites. They are as well more nutritious, They are richer in calcium, potassium, protein, iron, vitamin A and almost all the important minerals compared to many other eggs.
6. Ducks are relatively long-lived pets— Although the lifespan of a ducks varies based on species, On average it’s possible for them to live 10-15 years when well cared for.
7. Ducks are wonderful for pest control - Given the opportunity, ducks will eat every slug, worm, spider, grasshopper, cricket, fly and grub they can find. They are wonderful for natural pest control in that way, Pretty good way to keep pest in control for those with a garden or a backyard where you have a high number of bugs or flies
8. Ducklings are adorable - Okay, I admit this comes down to personal preference. As cute as baby chicks are, baby ducklings are irresistible. Those webbed feet that look too big for their bodies, earnest dark eyes and almost flesh-colored rounded bills steals my heart every single time.
9. Ducks are very accepting of new additions to the flock. - Unlike geese, chickens, or turkeys, the “pecking order” with ducks will not involve attacking the unfamiliar birds. Ducks welcome newcomers far more quickly than chickens do. Whether the newcomers are chickens or ducks, ducks seem unconcerned and won't bother new additions to the flock.
10. Ducks imprint easily on humans: Did you know that ducks, as well as geese, have a natural instinct to bond with humans which makes them the perfect pet? Although there will be less imprinting if you have more than one duck, which I feel is a must as they get too lonely if you get just one.. anyways they will typically bond with humans, thinking that they, too, are humans! Because of the deep bond between parent and duckling, human-raised ducks will spend their lives seeking the love and attention of their human companion. Much like the more familiar loyalty of a dog, ducks know who their owners are and will regularly express love and recognition affectionately.
