Myanmar’s Southeast Asian neighbours express concerns over coup

Myanmar's neighbours in Southeast Asia have expressed serious concern over the coup d'etat. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) said political stability is essential to peace. Some have described the military takeover as an internal matter, with the prime ministers of Cambodia and Thailand refusing to comment further. Indonesia has urged all parties to adhere to democratic principles and to observe the ASEAN charter. Singapore said it hopes all parties will exercise restraint, maintain dialogue and work towards a positive and peaceful outcome.
