In observance of Black History month, join the members of Muncie Public Library’s literary book club, Bookworms & Brews as they discuss The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois. The featured guest speaker is Dr. Sharon Fraser-Burgess, professor of Social Foundations and Multicultural Education at Ball State University. This collection of essays is a 1903 work of American literature and a seminal work in the history of sociology and a cornerstone of African-American literature. To develop his writting, Du Bois drew from his own experiences as an African-American in American society. Outside of its notable relevance in African-American history, The Souls of Black Folk also holds an important place in social science as one of the early works in the field of sociology. This event features guest speaker Dr. Sheron Fraser-Burgess, Professor of Social Foundations of education and Multicultural Education. Dr. Fraser-Burgess conducts research in the analytic tradition of philosophy of education where she writes about the ethical, epistemological and political implications of cultural identity and social positionality. This video was previously recorded via zoom on Thursday, February 17.
