Niagara Falls is the name of a collective of three waterfalls that flow together, the other: the Horseshoe Falls and the American Falls. Due to several years of stones slips between 1931 and 1954, The American Falls faced an erosion if not prevented would result in the permanent extinction of these waters. With resulting public outcry and protests to save the falls, the USACE (United States Army Corps of Engineers) had the immense responsibility of emptying the falls for repairs. To accept this historic challenge, a cofferdam was built, taking three days to empty after the machine has worked in two shifts of 11 hours, resulting in cutting the flow of the falls 60,000 liters per second for each quarter of its capacity of 15,000 liters per second.
