The reddish flakes which come on the skin doesn't always have to be dandruff also called as seborrheic dermatitis, it can be a skin condition called psoriasis where you get white scaly flakes you can also find some patches on the skin. So first the Dermatologist will see whether it is because of the psoriasis or dandruff. If it is because of dandruff then it will be related to their excess sebum secretion which is under the influence of hormones, so we do not really interfere with a hormone therapy but we do tell them frequent hair washes there are anti dandruff shampoo and lotions available, an antifungal treatment because one of the organisms which affects the excess sebum areas are fungal infections, so we give them antifungals which really help the patient and always remember it's an ongoing process once the patient is diagnosis seborrheic dermatitis or dandruff patient, they have to be continuously under treatment at least on and off.
