Efren Reyes Best Match, Efren Reyes Destroy Mike Sigel, In the First Set of the 2005 IPT King

As a pro pool player considered as the greatest one, Efren “Bata” Reyes has many achievements and has won many matches against other great pro pool players. One of the most memorable matches won by Reyes is his match against Mike “Captain Hook” Sigel in the grand final round of the 2005 International Pool Tour King of the Hill Championship. It’s very memorable because in the match consisting of 2-3 sets, Reyes had a flawless victory in the first set with 8-0, which really humiliated Sigel at that time. However, although Reyes had a perfect score in the first set of the match, it didn’t mean that Sigel didn’t get a chance to have a shot at all. In fact, they took turns in shooting the cue ball in every rack, but Efren always ended up pocketing the last ball. So, if you’re curious about how the first set of the match where Reyes had a flawless victory against Sigel went, here are the details of the match.

Number 8.
First rack. Efren “Bata” Reyes got the chance to take the break shot in the first rack by winning the lag. Fortunately, he managed to pocket one solid ball in the 8-Ball game, thus he had to pocket the remaining 6 solid balls before he could pocket the 8-ball. He then pocketed 4 more solid balls until he failed to pocket the 6th solid ball. Because of that, Mike “Captain Hook” Sigel took his turn in taking shots with the goal of pocketing all 7 striped balls. Unfortunately, Sigel was only able to pocket one ball before he failed to pocket another striped ball in his second shot. After that, Reyes took his chance to pocket the remaining solid balls until he pocketed the 8-ball, thus winning the first rack.

Number 7.
Second rack. By winning the first rack, Efren “Bata” Reyes had the chance to take the break shot in the second rack. Unfortunately, he could pocket any ball in the break shot, thus giving the chance to Mike “Captain Hook” Sigel to take the next shot. At that time, Sigel had the chance to show his prowess in pool sport by pocketing all 7 solid balls, leaving him with only 1 ball left, the 8-ball. Unfortunately, Sigel failed in pocketing the 8-ball. Otherwise, he would have won the second rack of the match. Because of that, Reyes got his chance to take another shot in that rack. He was in a very tough position there because if he made another mistake, Sigel would surely win the rack. However, although he had to pocket all 7 striped balls, he managed to pocket them all as well as the 8-ball in the end, thus winning the second rack as well.

Number 6.
Third rack. Efren “Bata” Reyes took a break shot in the third rack and he managed to pocket one striped ball. From that point, Reyes managed to pocket the striped balls one by one until he eventually had the chance to pocket the 8-ball and managed it, leaving Mike “Captain Hook” Sigel sitting on his chair in the entire third rack.
Number 5.
Fourth rack. The fourth rack also went just like in the third rack. Efren Reyes took a break shot while pocketing a solid ball in the process, and then he pocketed the remaining solid balls one by one until he eventually had the chance to pocket the 8-ball and managed it. So, in the fourth rack, Mike Sigel kept sitting in his chair in an entire rack again.
Number 4.
Fifth rack. Efren Reyes took the break shot in the fifth rack as well. Unfortunately at that time, he could pocket any balls in the break shot, thus giving a chance to Mike Sigel to come back to the pool table from his uncomfortable chair. Unfortunately as well for Sigel, he failed to pocket the ball solid ball he was aiming at, so that it was Reyes’ turn again to shoot. Since neither player had pocketed any ball, Reyes had the chance to choose the ball’s he had to pocket, the striped balls or the solid balls. Reyes chose the solid ball and just like in the 2 racks before, Reyes managed to pocket all solid balls as well as the 8-ball, allowing him to win the fifth rack as well.

Number 3.
Sixth rack. Efren Reyes started the sixth rack with a break shot and managed to pocket a solid ball. From that point, he pocketed the solid balls one by one. Amazingly, he did a combination shot when he pocketed the fourth solid ball, to which the audience gave applause. After that, Reyes just pocketed the remaining solid balls just like before and finally, the 8-ball, thus winning the sixth rack as well. With that, Mike Sigel was forced to keep sitting on his chair during the entire sixth rack.
