HOW TO Grow Sweet Potatoes in Containers and HOW TO Grow Sweet Potato Slips from Grocery Potatoes

Grow your own sweet potatoes this summer in containers and grow bags! Check out how I grew over 25 pounds from just 6-7 slips that sprouted from grocery store potatoes. Tons of fun!

GROW BAG AND SOIL - The huge, 100-gallon polypropylene grow bag was filled with 12 inches (30.48 cm) of soil and a 1:1 mix of rich compost and organic potting mix.

The one I used to grow over 25 pounds of sweet potatoes was similar to the bag at this link https://amzn.to/3hVyQc0 with dimensions 39.7" x 19.9". The cost is between $17 and $23 USD.

Filled 12 inches deep (30.48 cm), the 100 gallon grow bag required approximately 8.3 cubic feet / .31 cubic yards of soil.

These bags are reusable and they store all kinds of stuff at our place including kids' backpacks!

A 50 gallon grow bag would work well too. Dimensions would be approximately 29.5"D x 29.5"W x 15.8"H depending on the manufacturer.  If filled 12 inches deep (30.48 cm) requires approximately 4.75 cubic feet / .18 cubic yards of soil.

Also at the link above to the sweet potato post, you find a long list of sweet potato varieties and the number of days they require to mature - very helpful if you don't have 4 full months of warm weather.
