Where did the Presley family live in Tupelo. We take you to the sites of the Presley homes before the move to Memphis.

Where did Elvis live in Tupelo and how long did he live there? Where are the locations where Elvis lived in Tupelo? We travel around Tupelo, heading to the places where Elvis lived, where the Presley family lived and called home. We start of course at the Elvis Presley Birthplace where Elvis was born on Old Saltillo Road over in East Tupelo. Elvis first home is restored to how it looked on January 8 1935 when Elvis was born. Elvis twin brother was stillborn - Jesse Garon is buried in an unmarked grave in Priceville Cemetery. From there we show other locations in Tupelo where Elvis lived. Elvis and his mother Gladys Presley, and father Vernon Presley lived in East Tupelo at several locations and also lived on Mulberry in Tupelo, Commerce St in Tupelo and Mulberry Alley in Tupelo. Elvis last home in Tupelo was on N Green St before Elvis moved to Memphis in November 1948 with Gladys and Vernon.
Unchanged since it was built in the 30s the two room birthplace sat unoccupied and in poor repair. Seeing a worthy project for the park and the city members of the East Heights Garden Club took the initiative to open the house to fans. Today the house stands as a memorial to the humble beginning of Elvis's amazing career
Elvis's early life was enriched by the love of family and the basic goodness of his neighborhood.
While they lived here it was a new house that Vernon had built with his brother and father so it would have - no reason why it wouldn't have looked as new and clean as it does now.
This is the birthplace of Elvis Presley. Elvis was born right here in this room in 1935. 4.35 in the morning, on January 8th. In 1934 his dad borrowed $180, to build this home, from Mr. Bean.
450 square feet, the original fireplace, the original stove, except the stove is from the 1800s.
It was a hand-me-down from some of Gladys's kinfolks. You know, when Vernon went to prison for forgery, I think you're making that one zero, you know, changed the amount from $4 to $40,
When they moved back to Tupelo they stayed for another 10 years but they moved 8 times
in 10 years and basically what they went to Memphis for, they say he went for better jobs, but it wasn't that. Tennessee had something that Mississippi did not have and that was welfare benefits. And to me that one zero made Elvis the kind of person he was. The Birthplace advertised for furniture from that era and Vernon hand-picked every piece out, and placed it in here where it was at. Vernon - because the Birthplace opened in '72 - and she said Vernon actually Vernon actually hand-picked all the furniture, the reproductions, of how the home looked in the mid-30s. By the time Vernon was released from prison in February 1939, Gladys had been forced to leave the birthplace after failing to keep up payments. The family lived in several locations in East Tupelo over the next few years including living next door with Vernon's parents, on Reece Street with Vester (Vernon's brother) and Clettes (Gladys' sister) Presley
and in Tupelo itself with Gladys' cousin Frank Richards and his wife Leona. The family also spent a short time living in Pascagoula in southern Mississippi when Vernon found a job in the shipyards along with his cousin Sales Presley and his wife Annie. Until Vernon managed to purchase a house on Berry Street in August 1945
