A playthrough of the final boss Otane in Atlus' Power Instinct 2.

(Otane has the same moves as Oume)

While I have very little to say about this character or this game in particular, the subsequent videos regarding this series will be significantly more detailed (and hopefully interesting), hence I wanted to feel better again before returning to uploading.

Power Instinct 1 and 2 are curiosities as games go. They're essentially parody fighting games, and the early games in the series certainly feel that way gameplay-wise. From Legends onwards the series gets significantly better; Matrimelee, apart from Sissy, is an extremely good fighting game all things considered, and its sequel Power Instinct V is sublime. Power Instinct 2 however is a Street Fighter clone through and through, with a few quirks. Some characters, instead of having super moves, have the ability to transform into younger, more powerful versions of themselves. It's a unique gimmick but I personally think it's always hindered the gameplay of this series, as it requires a somewhat arbitrary requirement to be met for one character to reach the fighting standard of another. Apart from that one thing, it's a Street Fighter game with some crazy characters and in particular crazy, often obnoxious special moves, with the series' two flagship characters being the sisters Otane and Oume, members of the Goketsuji Family (which is actually the name of the game in Japanese), hence it the series has always in one way or another revolved them and their horrifying existence.

Being that they're sisters, both Otane and Oume, as bosses in the first two games, play exactly the same. And I do mean exactly the same. They seem to exist either to parody the fact that most fighting game bosses tend to be derived from the main protagonist, or it's just a joke for the sake of a joke. I can't really judge Otane's powers much therefore, as they are the powers of (effectively) a regular character. She has the exact same crazy projectiles as Oume, and is certainly a capable character, though pales in comparison to later bosses in the franchise. However, it's still important to make a video on her, both for the sake of thoroughness and as a point of comparison.
